We are so excited as we enter into our second season of hosting our Friday Night gatherings at the McMenamins Roadhouse. Friday Nights are an opportunity for the church and the community to gather in place that can be referred to as "neutral".
For many the church buildings, sites, campus, or whatever we call it, has been a place that gives them hesitation. Maybe it comes from a poor experience or assumption about the church. Whatever has caused this reluctance, it keeps some an arms length away from experiencing what Christ offers.
Our hope has been to provide a space where our community, co-workers, neighbors can, first, experience the church body relationally and allow a conversation about Jesus to happen naturally among new friends.
One particular family’s story is exactly the type of story we’ve been hopeful for when laying out this vision that God has called Kingship towards. The dad had been distant from faith and a church community for quite some time. In responding to an invitation to a Friday Night at McMenamins, he felt comfortable to attend with his family and there they met others in the church body.
He said he was most taken back by experiencing people from the church interested in just getting to know him; no strings attached. He was connected with other men in the church and conversations began. Soon his family began to go deeper about Jesus and faith becoming a priority for them. Hesitation was gone. Now the family has joined Kingship and are active in the church body.
This has been our hope since day one. That God would remove hesitation in people’s lives keeping them from experiencing a life with Jesus and the joys of the Kingdom of God.
We are filled with anticipation to see what God has in store for us in this upcoming season. Christ calls for each of us to engage in the ministry of making disciples. Take a moment and think through who has God placed in your life that you can begin or continue to invest in?
