Child Dedication

At Kingship Church we believe that the parents are the primary spiritual leaders of their children. God has entrusted a child's care and upbringing into the hands of their father and mother to provide, nurture, discipline, bless, and disciple them in their spiritual formation. The parents are called to train and equip their children in the way of righteousness and lead, as examples, a life of joy, obedience, and devotion to Jesus Christ, our King.

(Deuteronomy 6:4-9)

As a church body we affirm this commitment to the support and service of their spiritual leadership in the home. We are called to be relationally present: provoking wisdom, assurance, encouragement, prayer, and accountability.

Dedication of children in the church is not a means of salvation. It is an expression of faith in God’s sovereignty over the life of our children and our inner cry for mercy and blessing for them. Like Hannah did for Samuel, we dedicate our children to the Lord in hopes that they may have ears to hear and respond in adoration for the Lord, while committing to the responsibilities of teaching them in God’s ways.

(1 Samuel 1:28)

During the time of dedication, as parents you are making your internal promises to God vocal in front of His church in hope of support and wisdom from a strong community rooted firmly in Christ and established in faith. This is only possible within relationship and investment in each other’s lives. So, while you make known your commitments to the local body of the church, we in turn commit to you, to be active and present in the life of your family.

(Colossians 2:7)

Biblical Reflection:

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. // Deuteronomy 6:4-9

For this boy I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my request which I asked of Him. So I have also dedicated him to the Lord; as long as he lives he is dedicated to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there. // 1 Samuel 1:28
